Community Foundation North Okanagan offers charitable organizations the funding opportunities and resources they need to strengthen our community.

CFNO Grant Programs:

  • Smart & Caring Community Grants Program - This is our responsive grant-making program that addresses a wide variety of health, social, cultural, educational, and environmental needs while keeping a pulse on the issue areas that are specific to our North Okanagan region.

    • Timeline: Annual Applications accepted March 1-31st each year.

  • Better Together Community Fund (emergency grants) - this is our quick response grant model. Whether we are called upon to handle heat domes or flooding, food shortages or funding shortfalls – this type of support can push a project over the finish line.

Current Partnership Grant Programs:

  • Neighbourhood Small Grants Program - is a grant stream created for individuals to create small-scale community projects in neighbourhoods and small communities throughout North Okanagan.

    • Timeline: Annual applications accepted each Spring, please monitor the grant page for the exact dates.

    • Partners: Vancouver Foundation, Regional District North Okanagan, and Community Foundation South Okanagan Similkameen

  • Impact and Leadership Development Program Grants - is a grant-supported coaching program designed for emerging social entrepreneurs and impact leaders seeking support to build sustainable revenue for sustained impact.

    • Timeline: Annual applications accepted and administered by Purppl, go here for application dates.

    • Partners: United Way BC, Interior Savings (a trade name of Beem Credit Union), Community Foundation North Okanagan, Community Foundation of the South Okanagan-Similkameen, Central Okanagan Foundation, Valley First, a Division of First West Credit Union, and Prince George Community Foundation, as well as Purppl delivering the coaching.

  • The Okanagan Prosperity Fund - is a grant stream uniting resources to create lasting change by addressing the root causes of poverty and ensuring social inclusion and opportunity are accessible to all in our communities. This funding focuses on upstream solutions and provides larger grants to a smaller number of organizations closely aligned with a vision for long-term impact.

    • Timeline: Accepting Letters of Intent until August 26, 2024. Applications close November 20, 2024.

    • Partners: Community Foundation North Okanagan, Central Okanagan Foundation, and Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Similkameen

Past Partnership Grant Programs:

  • Community Services Recovery Fund - to support charities and non-profits as they focus on how to adapt their organizations for to the long-term impacts of the pandemic.

    • Partners: Canadian Red Cross, Community Foundations of Canada, and United Way Centraide Canada

  • Youth Initiative Grants - These grants are available to young people up to age 25 who are partnering with a charitable organization to create positive change in their local community. Applications were assessed by a youth council at Gennext Kelowna.

    • Partners: United Way, Gennext Kelowna, Central Okanagan Foundation, Community Foundation South Okanagan Similkameen

  • Investment Readiness Program - designed to support social purpose organizations build skills and capacity to access social finance investment which will get organizations help to do market analysis, develop new products and services, build business plans, and acquire technical expertise.

  • Communities For Gender Equality - a national initiative that builds on efforts to shift power to women, girls, Two-Spirit and gender diverse people, and work towards a future grounded in justice and gender equality.

    • Partners: Community Foundations of Canada and the Equality Fund, with support from the Government of Canada.

  • Emergency Community Support Fund - a source of rapid funding to support charities and non-profits that serve populations experiencing vulnerability amid #COVID-19

    • Partners: Community Foundations of Canada, United Way, the Canadian Red Cross, and the Government of Canada.

  • Healthy Community Initiatives - to support communities as they create and adapt public spaces to respond to the new realities of COVID-19.

    • Partners: Community Foundations of Canada, the Government of Canada alongside other BC Community Foundations in Southern BC

If your organization receives funding from CFNO, we appreciate public recognition wherever possible. We understand that the type of recognition you are able to provide will depend on the nature of how you handle recognition at your organization, and we would not expect you to do anything that doesn’t align with your organization’s values.
