As a community foundation we specialize in endowment funds, but we also work with donors who have other creative ideas for giving!
Setting up a new endowment fund requires a minimum donation of $5000; however, you can donate smaller amounts to existing funds or the Foundation’s Smart & Caring Community Fund. You can also set up your endowment fund with a starting gift and a pledge to be at the fund minimum within five years. ($1000 per year for 5 years)
It’s easy to set up your endowment fund with us – there are just three decisions to make:
-
Your Fund’s Name
It’s your Fund – its name is up to you. You may want to name your Fund after your family, your business, a loved one, or something special to you. You are always able to change it later if you want.
-
Your Fund’s Type
Everyone gives in different ways, we offer multiple options to suit your needs. Many of our donors choose to combine the different types of Funds we offer. You can even opt to create an endowment fund that will generate support for our community in perpetuity, as well as provide flow-through funding as a way to increase your immediate community granting impact. See our Fund Options page for more information. If you find the information confusing, put down the mouse and call us! We are here to make giving simple.

How your Fund gets started
Start your endowment fund with a gift of cash, securities, real estate, life insurance, RRSPs and/or RRIFs. Let us work with you and/or your professional advisor to help decide the best option. Our named funds start at $5000. If you don’t have that amount right now, you have up to five years to reach it. Once your Fund has reached its fund threshold, you can start granting and making a real impact.
Legacy Giving
Not ready to start your endowment fund now? Leave your mark with a Legacy Circle Pledge. Our Legacy Circle is a group of caring community members whose commitment to the region they love has led them to include the Community Foundation of the North Okanagan in their legacy and estate planning. By selecting us as a beneficiary of your estate or your life insurance policy, you can become a Legacy Circle Member and know that even after you are gone, your legacy will continue to support the charitable causes that were dear to you in your lifetime. Whether you want your name kept confidential or shared in our materials to inspire others is completely up to you.
Contact Leanne Hammond at 250-542-8655 or [email protected] to discuss your options.
